CTA Frequent Network
In 2025 CTA launched the Frequent Network which provides 10-minute or better scheduled service, all day, every day. The Frequent Network includes 24 routes across the entire system. The development of the Frequent Network built on the findings from the Bus Vision Framing Report.
Better Streets for Buses Plan and the Bus Priority Corridor Study
CTA and CDOT’s Better Streets for Buses Plan (BSB) is a framework that identifies 17 bus corridors and a toolbox of street, signal, and sidewalk infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the bus riding experience. The Bus Priority Corridor Study is a major next step in implementing the BSB and is by exploring ways to make bus travel faster, more convenient, and more comfortable for riders by recommending location-specific infrastructure improvements along five of the BSB corridors: Pulaski, Western, Cottage Grove, Fullerton, and 55th/Garfield.
Pace Revision
Pace Bus, which provides bus service in Cook, Will, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties, is also in the process of reimagining its bus network and looking for input to help shape the future of suburban transit in northeastern Illinois through the Pace ReVision project. CTA’s Bus Vision and Pace’s ReVision projects have the shared goal of better understanding rider needs and gaining insights into how bus service should be improved.
Metra Systemwide Network Plan
In order to understand what shape Metra’s evolution towards a regional rail service model should take, Metra has initiated a Systemwide Network Plan. This plan will help identify how Metra can better service fluctuating travel markets with regional rail service, and will guide Metra Capital and Operations for the next 20+ years. Metra’s Systemwide Network Plan has already begun to shape Metra’s vision for regional rail with the schedule enhancements implemented over the last few years; these changes are meant to adapt to the changing service needs of the region.
